November 24, 2012: DJ Teddy Eddy visits my area for the first time~!

25 Nov
DJ Teddy Eddy, my “bossdad”, drove all the way to my place today in order to pick up the comic books I got for him. To make his trip worthwhile, we decided to go to two comic book shops to hunt for more blank variants.

We ended up visiting Earth-2 Comics and Njoy Comics. We were supposed to check out a few others too but Eddy already got what he wanted so we decided to head back to my place.

And then this happened:

Cyber Force #1 Release and Signing with Marc Silvestri and Matt Hawkins at Collector’s Paradise Pasadena

26 Oct

by Linn Sarmiento

First of all, I love Marc Silvestri’s art.

Alright, moving on.

I originally wanted to contribute to the Cyber Force Kickstarter but unfortunately, college ate my bank account at around the same time and so I was forced to let the opportunity pass and despair in a corner.

That’s why when I found out about the signing, I made sure that I will be able to go.

The plan even got better when my friend Ray (@TechyMashi) was interested in tagging along. I don’t have a car so I usually invest two or more hours just to get to places but he does so you get the point. Besides, these types of events are more fun with a friend.

Since only the first 25 people can get sketches, we planned to leave early. Ray picked me up at 9AM and we headed straight to this nice cafe-like McDonald’s and got McGriddles.

We arrived at the venue at around 10AM. A line has formed already, making me almost dive out of the car just to save our spots.

If I counted correctly which I doubt I did because I just suck at Math like that, we took the 17th and 18th spot.

We heard that the first three people in the line were already there 8PM of the night before.

This is the line at 12:47 PM and me blurring the shot for all those people that might be as vain as me and don’t want a candid shot.

While in the line, Collector’s Paradise gave out the free first issue of Cyber Force

and suggested that we try out “Think Tank”, a comic written by Matt Hawkins and drawn by Rahsan Ekedal, who were also there.

The art looks really great so I got all the issues available.

Around 1:10 PM, the legendary Marc Silvestri arrived all ready for doing sketches~!

After a few interactions with the comic store people and the hardcore fans at the very front of the line, Marc Silvestri, Rahsan Ekedal and Matt Hawkins got to work.

Aside from the very entertaining folks that we met at the line, we also met Cesar I. Rosas who drew us great free sketches.

I got a Poison Ivy one.

Ekedal were also doing sketches which made me really more anxious to get my turn.

When I finally got to the door of the store, I saw him leaving and I freaked out so bad that I blocked the door whining “NOOOOOOOO” as the people around me laughed their faces off.

Can I just stress how beautifully kind this guy is? He stopped, apologized for scaring me like that and signed my comics.

While in the line, we remembered we have a writing assignment due the next day. So for fun and to give our super chill professor a heads-up about the possibility of us not turning it in, we did this:

Also, kudos to this guy who works for the comic store for doing the greatest job ever keeping the people in line busy with his funny stories.

We didn’t get our sketches till 5:30PM. I guess that’s just typical for a signing but what made it go really slow is that some people brought the biggest stacks of Marc Silvestri comics and collectibles. It was very very very kind of Silvestri to go through it all and sign it one by one.

The comics were signed first by Matt Hawkins. He shared some fun facts with us about “Think Tank” where he referenced real-life places. He talked to everybody, even promised to e-mail PDFs of “Think Tank #1” to people who are interested. He also joined this kid in checking out the toy sale section in the shop.

I just thought that it was very nice and cute.

These guys have so much energy~! Aside from signing our comics, Hawkins started working on signing some Cyber Force copies.

When I got my turn, I told Marc Silvestri that I had more of his comics but it’s just that I thought there was a limit to how many he’ll sign. He told me that there’s no limit because they love the fans.

He even thanked me for being interested in comics. Such an amazing guy, I tell you.

I have a million things to say about these people but bottomline is, these people are so kind and sweet and nice and honest and everything.

It really really really makes a difference to know and experience that the people who create the things that we love have such beautiful personalities.

Falling in-love with a person for his skill and trade is already one thing.

But loving them the as much as a person? Oh damn. No wonder these people have fans willing to spend six or more hours just to meet them.

Oh yeah. They were also interested what the fans think of the comic.

I’ll write something later on about it then~!

Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH MATT HAWKINS, MARC SILVESTRI AND RAHSAN EKEDAL FOR DOING THIS EVENT.

IT WAS SUCH AN HONOR.

KEEP UP THE GODLY AMAZING WORK AND EXPECT MY SUPPORT FOR ALL YOUR WORK AND TOPCOW~!!!
